Oregano, Origanum vulgare
Popular cooking herb extensively in Italian, Mexican and Spanish cuisines. Attractive shrub-like perennial grown for leaves which are used fresh or dried to flavor soups, sauces, chilies, pizza, spaghetti, salad dressing, meats, etc.
Oregano flavor is best before plant blooms. Pick leaves as needed and use fresh or dry. Leaves may be frozen. Grows well in containers, indoors and out. Responds well to pruning.
