Classic heirloom basil, nowadays called large leaved basil, it was described in VilmorinÍs ñThe Vegetable Gardenî in 1885.
Easy to grow, indoors or out, in pots, containers of the kitchen garden. Also attractive in flower beds. Named for its large crumpled leaves which are used either fresh or dried. Pick lower leaves allowing newer leaves to grow.
Plant seed outdoors after all danger of frost is past or can be grow indoors year round. Plant in rows or beds 2 feet apart covering seed with 1/8 inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until seeds sprout.
Germinates in 7 to 14 days depending on temperature.
Matures in 40 days.
